Trailing spouses follow their partners across cities, countries, and even continents.

But what happens to their own dreams, ambitions, and sense of identity along the way?

This week we hear from spouses making a new life in Finland, and hear how they can restart their careers.

"Networking is such a big thing here, and I think the thing about networking is that it's sometimes a scary word for people," Lauren Jung, a community coordinator for the city of Espoo, told the show.

"Sometimes it feels like this very formal thing, like, oh, I need to go to a conference and wear my best blazer and, you know, shake hands with big important people. But I think the important thing to remember is that networks are everywhere."

Lucia Vuillermin, a career counsellor at the Turku University of Applied Sciences, also talked about how foreigners in Finland have to make themselves visible, instead of waiting for someone to come knocking on the door.

"They think somebody will find my 'hidden gem' and understand that what I've done is so precious and important, and they will recognise and hire me. Unfortunately, it is not like that," she said.
