Explosion injures Finnish peacekeeper in Lebanon

A Finnish peacekeeper in Lebanon was hurt in an explosion during a scheduled patrol on Wednesday.

An explosives incident in southern Lebanon injured a Finnish peacekeeper serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) on Wednesday morning, the Finnish Army said in a statement.

The platoon was carrying out a scheduled patrol, when an explosion occurred, injuring a Finnish peacekeeper's lower limb, it said.

The peacekeeper was treated immediately at the scene of the incident and was taken to hospital for further care. According to the Army's statement, the injured person's relatives have been contacted.

All peacekeepers serving in the operation and the relatives of the injured person are being offered counseling following the incident.

The Army said the incident is still being investigated.
