Abstract

1,160,462. Packages. TORRINGTON CO. 25 Aug., 1966 [3 Sept., 1965], No. 38168/66. Heading B8C. A container, particularly for needles and having a hinged lid and being integral with an information bearing sheet, is made by moulding a web to form a joined series of the sheets, and hinged lid and body positions. The contents are inserted and the lid folded down and sealed before separating the packages by cuts or perforations. A transparent web passes first to forming and then printing means or vice versa, in which the formation shown in Fig. 3, which may include raised decoration, is produced. This includes the lid 46, a raised support 48 having deep indentations to receive the needles 70, see also Fig. 7, grooves 50 which form flanges 62, along each side of the sheet, and apertures 28 for engagement by projections pulling the web through the machine, The latter is illustrated only diagrammatically, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) and is not described in any detail. Cuts are made along each side of the cover, needles are loaded by unspecified mechanical means and the cover swung over by a forked folder. The cover is sealed down at spaced areas 74 and the waste portions bearing the apertures 28 are cut off in line with the hinge 58. At the same time the packages may be severed into units, a T-shaped cutter being used. They are then boxed. Alternatively, if they are separated only by perforations, a roll is formed. In use, the seals 74 may be broken by a knife blade 88, Fig. 10, and subsequent holding closed achieved by co-operating formations 56, 54 on the lid and body, Fig. 4. The container may be separated from the sheet by cutting along the lid periphery.
