Reciprocating-cylinder pumps.- Relates to lubricating-pumps having one or more cylinders, suspended in the oil reservoir, and reciprocated on their stationary plungers by rotating cams or the like. Figs. 1 and 2 show an arrangement of three pumps B, the cylinders being suspended on rods C on which they are reciprocated by cams K on a shaft rotated by a ratchet-wheel H in a well-known way. The cams rotate in open recesses in the pump bodies so that the latter can be removed independently. The stroke is variable by means of a piece M which is adjusted by a screwed rod N to vary the width of the gap in which the cam rotates. Each cylinder D is reciprocated on a fixed plunger E, and is provided with suction and delivery valves R, S, respectively. The plunger-rod F has a central bore U and is provided with two delivery valves V, W. The space T behind the plunger E when at its maximum is about half the volume of the barrel, and communicates with the bore U through a. radial port. Thus when the barrel moves forward, one half of its contents is discharged through the valves V, W, the other half remaining in the annular space T, and being discharged during the following suction stroke. A pointer P moving over a scale shows the delivery of each unit.
