Abstract

199,983. Shawyer, W. J., and Gush, S. H. Aug. 28, 1922. Exhaust-,silencers. - A silencer comprises a casing of flat box-like form with an initial expansion chamber f and a long winding passage g following approximately the form of the casing. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the casing comprises two sides b bolted together and provided with a rim c and with grooves k in which fits a strip of metal J forming the winding passage. Inlets d are provide in the sides b and an outlet h in the rim c. In a modification, the expansion chamber f is formed at one end of the casing instead of centrally. The silencer may be made of steel, aluminium or other metal.
