Abstract
531,622. Electric cables. PIRELLIGENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and BARRON, H. July 6, 1939, No. 19669. [Class 36] In cables especially of the concentric type for high frequency currents, to keep the permittivity low, the insulation is a thermo-plastic material having a cellular structure of a kind in which closed gas-filled cells are separated from each other. The thermo-plastic material may be of one of the following types : polymerized vinyl, polymerized substituted vinyl, polymerized divinyl, polymerized olefine, polymerized isobutylenes and unvulcanized rubber. To the material may be added such plasticizers as triphenyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate, amyl phthalate or chlorinated naphthalenes. The cellular structure may be produced by passing a gas such as air, nitrogen or oxygen into the material when warm and fluid, with simultaneous churning or mixing.
