Abstract

543,268. Electric resistance heaters. CRESSALL, H. H. Sept. 24, 1940, No. 14526. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A hollow cylindrical former is provided with two helical grooves 11, 12 of opposite hand, for resistance coils 13, 14 which may be connected in series or parallel. More than two such grooves may be provided, and the resistances may be of different gauge but of constant length. The ends of the grooves are bounded by radial walls 19 with holes 20 through which wires 21 of hairpin form are inserted. The end or ends of the resistance wires also pass through these holes and the three wires are tightly twisted together so that the ends of the resistances are reinforced and the combined wires; or an extension of the reinforcement only, may be connected to terminals. A similar reinforcement for the ends of the resistance may be provided when the former is a plate. The resistance may be for heating purposes or otherwise.
