Abstract

566,547. Pistons. SENIOR, J. W. Aug. 10, 1943, No. 12877. [Class 122 (i)] A piston for use in a worn cylinder is reduced in diameter at 10 to provide an annular chamber 12, the base of which communicates at the end of the stroke with the hollow 6 worn in the cylinder by the replaced piston. Oil forced past the piston collects in the chamber 12 and is protected from being burnt before the gas pressure forces it back past the rings. The chamber is of greater axial length than the first land of the replaced piston, so that contact of the piston ring with the ridge 7 of the worn portion 6 is prevented.
