Abstract
720,531. Pistons and cylinders. KYLE, D. W. E. March 16, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 6606/50. Class 122(1). [Also in Group XIX] In auxiliary equipment, such as an indicator or a fuel injection pump, for an internal combustion engine having a cylinder 5 and piston 1 actuated by the cylinder gases of the engine, the working surface of the said cylinder or piston comprises a layer of graphite. The piston may have a graphite sleeve 4, and a segmented graphite piston ring 9 pressed against the hard steel cylinder by a split spring ring 11. Alternatively the piston may be of graphite with or without a metal reinforcement, or the cylinder may have a graphite liner co-operating with a metal piston.
