[Class 93] [Also in Groups XVII and XVIII] A decorative panel comprises a background and a sheet of transparent material surmounting the background which sheet is provided with an opaque pattern in which the background is formed with light reflecting and light absorbing portions so that the pattern is viewed in contrasting lights. The pattern is etched, engraved, coined or otherwise introduced into the inner or rear surface of the sheet and a panel of light reflecting and light absorbing portions placed in contact with or parallel to the face containing the pattern. The non-reflecting surfaces may be black or some dark colour, and the reflecting surfaces may be of silver or gold colour. The invention may be applied to a cigarette case or box, to a table lamp, wall lighting, or for advertising purposes. The panel may be illuminated by artificial light, e.g. in the table lamp the light from the lamp may be directed towards an edge of the panel.
