Abstract
635,437. Drying apparatus. CONTROLLED HEAT & AIR, Ltd., and MACMILLAN, R. D. April 13, 1948, No. 10174. [Class 34(ii)] Drying apparatus comprises the combination of a preheating chamber where drying is by radiant heat and a main drying chamber in which hot waste gases from the preheating section are circulated. In the construction shown, an oven a has an inlet b at one end and an outlet c at the other end with a conveyer d, from which the articles d' to be dried are suspended, passing throughout the length of the oven a. At the inlet end is provided a cylindrical tunnel b<SP>1</SP> which is heated by gas burners b<SP>2</SP>, and an air inlet b<SP>3</SP> is provided in the bottom of the oven so that hot gases flow around the exterior of the tunnel as shown by arrows b<SP>5</SP>. On leaving the tunnel the articles pass through a fume-extracting section g where hot gases from the longitudinal duct e<SP>2</SP> flow upwardly through the flue g<SP>1</SP> carrying with them any volatile gases given off during the preheating period. The articles then pass in a main drying chamber h within which hot gases are circulated, the gases being passed from fan e through a conduit e<SP>1</SP> and expelled from a duct e<SP>2</SP> in the base of the oven. They enter the duct f and are re-circulated.
