Abstract

647,053. Tunnel kilns. MOORE, B. J. Oct. 8, 1946, No. 29982. [Class 51(ii)] In a gas or oil fired tunnel kiln, one or more burner tubes 22 project upwardly into refractory floor blocks 20 in each of several recesses or combustion chambers 19 disposed on either side of a central passage 14, said chambers being provided with a baffle 27 to direct heat to the lowest part of the load. Combustion products are exhausted via a longitudinal flue 26 parallel to which run recuperator ducts 29 mounted on rollers 33 and carrying combustion air to branch pipes 32 communicating with each burner tube. A preheating zone for the ware trucks 16 is provided with electric heating elements disposed on either side of the passsage 14. Specification 647.120 is referred to.
