Abstract
<FORM:0673493/IV (b)/1> <FORM:0673493/IV (b)/2> Acetylene is produced by the incomplete combustion of a stream of gaseous hydrocarbons and oxygen with the formation of a flame after preheating the reactants, wherein the reactants, prior to mixing them, are placed under the same pressure. At least one of the two reactants, after they have been placed under the same pressure, are split up into partial streams and all the partial streams are united in mixing devices arranged parallel to each other. In Fig. 1, the two gases enter at I and II and are brought to the same pressure by means of pressure regulators a and a1, and set to the desired mixing ratio by means of gas regulator b. The gas preheaters are located at c and c1 and are connected to mixing device d and mixing chamber e. The hot gas mixture passes through a gas distributer f into flame chamber g. Fig. 2 illustrates an alternative mixing chamber e which consists of a plurality of almost rotation-symmetrical parallel mounted elements. The two reactants enter through channels h and i and are split up into partial streams by throttles h1, h2 and h3, and jets i1, i2 and i3. Parts f and g have the above significance for Fig. 1. A detailed example is given.
