Abstract

<PICT:0702035/III/1> <PICT:0702035/III/2> Synthosis gas is produced from gaseous aliphatic hydrocarbons and oxygen and/or air, without supplying external heat, by effecting partial combustion of the hydrocarbons with oxygen or air in a primary zone and then, in a second zone, effecting mutual reaction of the gaseous products thus obtained with the aid of a nickel-type catalyst and the heat developed in the first zone, no steam being introduced into either zone and the reactant gases being introduced into the primary zone in a manner producing vigorous turbulence. The primary partial combustion is effected with a slight excess cf oxygen. As shown, the reactant gases are introduced through tangentially arranged nozzles 4 (see Fig. 2) into a partial combustion chamber 1 and the gaseous products are then passed through a catalyst chamber 2. The sensible heat of the synthesis gas issuing at 6 may be used for preheating the reactant gases.
