Abstract
A lubricating composition which is substantially free from fluorides comprises an organic lubricating oil base and a minor proportion of boric acid. Suspensions of boric acid in the oil may be dispersed by petroleum sulphonates, such as sodium or calcium petroleum sulphonates, phosphatides such as animal lecithin and partial or complete esters of long chain carboxylic acids with polyhydric alcohols, such as glyceryl mono-oleate or glycerol sorbitan laurate. Other optional additives include antioxidants such as aromatic amines and alkylated phenols, and detergents such as metal soaps of fatty acids, naphthenates and phenates.
