Abstract
823,278. Closing folding boxes. CLELAND Ltd., W. W., and BUCHMAN, A. A. Nov. 28 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36602/56. Class 18. A cardboard box 2, Fig. 3, having its end closed by flaps 6 and 7, has a line 13 cut in one flap 6 to form a tongue 14 facing the hinge line 15 of the flap, and crease lines 16 extending from the ends of the cut to form a lever 18 for the tongue 14. To close the box the side wall flaps 8 and 9 are tucked in to cause the flap 7 to fold down and the tongue 14 is deflected so as to enter a slot 19 in the flap 7, Fig. 4, the whole being then retained in position by turning down the lever 18 of the tongue 14 into the plane of the end closure. In a modified form, Fig. 2, the cut forming a tongue 14 terminates in crease lines 16 directed towards a further cut forming a lever 20 of smaller size than the tongue 14. There may be two or more locking tongues in the flap 6 with corresponding slots in the flap 7.
