Abstract

A process to improve the filling capacity of tobacco comprises subjecting the tobacco at its normal moisture content to the vapour of an aliphatic, aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons or a mixture thereof and then drying the tobacco. The process is carried out at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature between 64 DEG C. and 100 DEG C. Quantitative examples are given.
