L.v DANA. OVEN BOITOM SUPPORT.

LESLIE DANA, OF
ERENTMORE PARK, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOB TO CHARTER OAK RANGE COMPANY, A CORPQRATION OF MISSOURI.
s'rovn &
OVEN-BOTTOM surron'r.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LESLIE DANA, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Brentmore Park, St. Louis county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in OvenBott-om Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in an oven bottom support, and has for its object a skeleton casting arranged in the form of channels and is properly secured to the oven bottom for strengthening and stifiening the same, yet provides s'ufficient heating space against the surface of the oven so as to obtain quick action and yet prevent warping of the oven bottom.
A further object of my invention is to construct a casting which is light and durable and arranged to be firmly secured tothe under side of an oven bottom, whereby said bottom is retained in rigid position and yet unobstructing the heating space or capacity and the circulation in the flue beneath said oven.
Figure 1, is a detail perspective view of the casting which constitutes my invention. Fig. 2, is a detail perspective view of one corner of the casting showing the construction and the corner angular connection removed. Fig. 3, is a horizontal side elevation of my improved casting shown in position on the under side of the oven bottom. Fig. 4, is a perspective view of the oven bottom with the casting in position showing the corner and side connections removed,
In the construction of my invention I provide a casting consisting of a plurality of members 5, and a plurality of members 6, each formed integral with each other and suitably spaced apart forming approximately rectangular openings 7. The ends of the members are connected together by integral members 8 and 9, and the corners are again connected together by an integral member 10, all of these members being preferably channeled as shown in order to secure rigidity as well as lightness to the casting. This casting is firmly riveted or otherwise secured to the oven bottom 11, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and by this arrangement the usual braces and stifiening members ordinarily used in. the present manufacture of stoves are dis-" pens'ed with, and by the arrangement allof the openings 7, permit the heat passing through the line below the oven bottom to v Specification of Letters Patent. obstructed by heavy cross-bars or castings,
and thus requires a lengthy period of firing before the oven is heated.
lVith my invention and by practical experiment the bottom of the oven is as readily and rapidly heated as the sides and top thereof, and there is absolutely no possibility of said oven bottom becomingwarped or irregular in shape.
In Fig 4, I show a casting of a difierent form or in other words the end, side, and corner connections removed. casting as shown in Fig. 4, is used in small stoves where the oven is of small dimensions; but the action and supporting feature of the casting are in reality the same as that shown in Fig. 1, which casting is designed for ovens of large dimensions, such as large ranges used in restaurant and hotel kitchens.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:
1. A casting of the class described comprising a casting of octagonal shape having aplurality of channeled members integrally connected and suitably spaced to form approximately rectangular openings into which heat is permitted to pass, the ends and sides connected by corner members, in combination with an oven bottom to which said casting is firmly attached for supporting the same rigidly and preventing warping.
2. As an article of manufacture a skeleton casting of octagonal shape consisting of integral channeled members, the ends and sides being connected and arranged to be firmly secured to the under side of an oven bottom of a stpve, for rigidly supporting said oven bottom to prevent the same from warping and yet provide sufiicient space against which the heat may contact with the oven bottom.
3. As an article of manufacture, a casting This style of consisting of a plurality of channels inmembers connecting the sides and ends and name to this specification, in presence of two formlng triangular openings, the said castsubscribing Witnesses. 5 mg arranged to be firmly secured to the under side of an oven bottomfor rigidly LESLIE DANA:-
