UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER S. ADAMS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN A. BRILL, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR AN AXLE-BOX FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,467, dated May 23, 1893.
Application filed March 25, 1393. Serial No. 467,640. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER S. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and prodnced a new and useful Design for an Axle- Box Frame, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the same.
My invention has relation to the design for an axle box frame. The essential feature is its configuration.
In the drawings forming part of this specification-Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan view.
The axle box frame is composed of the intermitted side bars 1, and the cross bars 2, the union of the side and cross bars forming a frame continuous in outline and rectangular in shape. The side bars have the central sections 3, and end sections 4, 5, the end sections 4 lying above the plane of the end sections 5. Intermediate of the ends of the side bars are located the axle box yokes 6, 7, the side bars being intermitted, leaving spaces 8, 9 between the intermitted portions, the op posing ends of the intermitted portions of the side bars having the yokes extending there from, which are approximately in the shape of an inverted U. The centerof the bearing surface 10 of the yokes 6 extends above and below the plane of the web of the end sections 4, while the web of the central sections 3 of the side bars is coincident with thelower portion of the yoke and lies below the plane of the said end section; while the bearing surface 11 of the yokes 7 extends almost entirely below the plane of the central and end sections 3, 5 of the side bars, the top of the yoke being substantially flush with the top of the said section while the legs of the yokes extend below them. Extending outwardly from the top of the yokes 6 are bars 12, flat on top as in Fig. 2. %y reference to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the yokes 6, 7 and the bar 12 are wider than the side and cross bars of the axle box frame.
Having described the same, I claim- The design for an axle box frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, this 13th day of March, 1893.
