The board of the Pori Jazz festival on Finland's west coast has submitted an investigation request to police over the suspected misuse of the association's funds.

Regional newspaper Satakunnan Kansa reported (in Finnish) on Friday that a person no longer working with the association may have misused money intended for the hosting and running of the annual event.

Police in the region confirmed to the newspaper that an investigation has been launched, but remained tight-lipped on the details of the case — such as the nature of the suspected offences, the identity of the suspect or the amount of money involved — while the probe is ongoing.

However, citing its own sources, the newspaper said the amount of money could run into tens of thousands of euros.

The festival board's chair, Jari Perkiömäki, said the amount involved is significant enough for the association to contact police.

"However, the amount of money is not of huge importance for the association's activities. The case has no impact on our plans for next summer's festival," Perkiömäki added.

Pori Jazz, established in 1966, is one of Europe's oldest jazz festivals.
