Abstract

1,253,195. Portable containers; packages; boxes. FIRST DYNAMICS Inc. 23 March, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 13944/70. Headings B8C, B8D and B8P. An implement 17 for removing the contents of the container, such as a straw, fork or spoon, is retained in an inwardly-directed groove 15 formed in a planar food container wall 13 by a tearable sealing strip or sheet 18 adhered to the outside surface of the wall. As shown, the container is in the form of a plastics box and the groove is defined in and extends diagonally of a cover 13, which is heat-sealed to a peripheral flange 14 except at a corner portion 19 to permit the formation of an opening for entry of the implement on tearing back of the cover. The strip 18 is of plastics and is provided with a tear tab 18a. The groove is provided with finger recesses 27 on either side intermediate its ends to facilitate removal of the implement after strip 18 has been torn away. In modifications, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the groove is defined in the bottom wall and side wall respectively of the box. In other modifications, the container is of circular or elliptical cross-section, Fig. 6 (not shown), with the groove lying in and along a diameter of the major axis of an end wall. Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) illustrate a spoon accommodated in the groove 15.
