Abstract

273,369. Butterworth, M. March 19, 1926. Joints with yielding outer part compressed. -Two pipes A<1>, A<2> are coupled by a union B the socket parts b<4> of which are bored to the external diameter of the pipes A', A<2> and are externally screwthreaded to take a compres-- sion nut C which has a tapered portion c<1> adapted to compress the wall of the socket so that it binds upon the inserted pipe. The threads. of the socket b<4> are tapered for a part b<1> of their length and parallel for the remaining part b<2>, while the threads of the nut C may be identical. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tapered parts of the socket and nut are unthreaded, while in further modifications, Fig. 4, the threads on the socket are wholly tapered or wholly parallel, the thread in the nut being wholly tapered in both cases. Reference has been directed by the Comptrollerto Specifications 3087/76, 19873/08, and 6138/10.
