844,226. Making and attaching spouts. SEAL-SPOUT CORPORATION. July 1, 1958, No. 21049/58. Class 83 (2). A machine for mounting a pouring-spout in a container wall comprises means for moving the container in a predetermined path, means for moving the spout momentarily synchronously with the container along and parallel to said path and coacting means adapted to move towards each other to secure the spout in the wall during such synchronous movement. Containers E are moved along a table G past the spout inserting mechanism H by arms h projecting from an endless belt F and a spout I is inserted in one of the closure flaps i of each container. By means of feed-dogs 8 pivoted to a block 6 which is reciprocated against a spring 48 by a pivoted lever 11 engaging a cam 16 on a vertical shaft 17, a strip L of connected flat spout blanks is fed into a guidway 1 between plates 2 and 3 to spout-forming mechanism including fixed and movable dies 25, 26 which bend up the side-wings c of the spout while punches 29 carried by the die 26 form prongs b. The die 26 is reciprocated by rollers 31 engaging a cam 30 on the shaft 17. The spout inserting mechanism H includes a spout-carrier 36 which is momentarily moved synchronously with each container by cams 44 and 45 on the shaft 17 engaging follower rollers 42, 43 on a plate 40 to which the carrier 36 is secured by screws 41. Spouts pass from the channel 1 into a channel 46 in the carrier and there a ram 47 severs the spout from the strip and inserts the flanges and prongs through the flap i while an anvil M supports the flap against the thrust of the ram. The anvil is carried by a lever 55 moved by a camplate 63 in engagement with a follower 61. Specifications 545,192 and 799,563 are referred to.
