Description
Oct. 22, 1929. O. F. STENGEL SANITARY SEALING DEVICE FOR MILK BOTTLES FilOd Dec. 23, 1927 gwuant ov 0 E 52211561 Patented Oct. 22, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SANITARY SEALING DEVICE FOR MILK BOTTLES Application filed December 23, 1927. Serial No. 242,216.
This invention relates to a sanitary sealing device for milk bottles and the like and more particularly to a cap for application to milk bottles, which will complete y cover not only the ordinary milk bottle cap, but likewise the mouth of the bottle, so that the same is protected against contamination in handling or the like.
1 An important object of the invention is to 30 provide a device of this character, which may be very readily and cheaply produced, may be easily applied to the bottle and will fully perform the functions for which it is intended.
as lhese and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper end of a milk bottle having a sealing means applied thereto in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view therezfi'through;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the sealing means.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the numeral designates a prefer- :0 ably substantially cylindrical piece of material, which may be formed from paper, cloth or any other suitable medium having integrally connected therewith an elongate tab 11, one surface of which is gummed, as
5 indicated at 12. As previously noted, the
body of the device is preferably substantially cylindrical, and where this construction is employed, the tab 11 should have its outer edge 13 tangential to the periphery of the body. In alignment with the inner edge, the body should be notched, as indicated at 14, to a depth equal to the width of the band, so that the band may occupy a position such that it will be perpendicular to the folded edge 15 of the body 10, when the center of the same is placed over the mouth of. a milk bottle and the edges thereof are folded against the neck thereof, as shown in Fi re 1. With the parts in this position, it is simply necessary to wrap the tab 11, which has been previously moistened, about the folded end 15, when the seal will be completed. It will, of course, be obvious that the iody 10 need not be circular in form, although this form is preferred, for the reason that 1t presents the neatest appearance when in applied position. The tab 11, however, to insure proper application thereof should be either perpendicular or. substantially perpendicular to a line bisecting the body 10, and the inner end of the notch 14 should extend to a point adjacent such a line. While the body and tab are preferably integrally secured, It will be obvious that th1s tab could be attached, if so desired. a
Since the construction hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change and modification without materially departing from the spirit of the invention, I do not limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
. 1. A sanitary sealing device for milkbottles and the like comprising a body in the form of a circular sheet adapted to be placed over the mouth of a milk bottle or the like and have its edges folded downwardly about the neck thereof, said body having an integral tab which in the applied position of the ody may be wrapped around the folded edges of the body to secure the same in position, the tab having one face thereof gummed, said tab being perpendicular to a bisector of the body, the outer edge of the tab forming a continuation of the peripheral edge of the sheet, the sheet in alignment with the inner edge of the tab being notched.
2. A sanitary seallng device for milk bottles and the like comprising a body in the form of a circular sheet adapted to be laced over the mouth of a milk bottle or the li e and have its edges folded downwardly about the neck thereof, said body having an integral tab which in the applied position of the body may be wrapped around the folded edges of the body to secure the same in position, the tab having one face thereof gummed, said tab being perpendicular to a bisector of the body, the outer edge of the tab forming a continuation of the peripheral edge of the sheet, the sheet in alignment with the inner edge of the tab being notched, said notch being of a de th sufficient to free the eriphery of the s eet for the width of the ta In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
